The 2016 Festival of the Pacific Arts Guam Literary Arts committee is

accepting, through October 15, 2015, original, unpublished work for its

upcoming anthology, Local Voices. Quality poetry, fiction and non-fiction

written in English or in a Pacific language (with translations into

English) are wanted. Writers may submit up to five (5) poems and three (3)

prose pieces. The maximum length for each piece is 15 pages of typed,

single-spaced text. With your submission, include a cover sheet with your

contact information.

Callout and Auditions

July 11, 2015: The FESTPAC Programming Committee will host its first official callout for interested candidates to discuss the criteria and dates for the upcoming auditions. The callout event will take place at the GCC Multi-Purpose Room.

The auditions have been scheduled for the following dates:

July 18, 2015:
10 am to 12 noon - Oratory (story-telling, poetry etc.)
1 pm to 3 pm - Publications

July 25, 2015:
10 am - 12 noon - History
1 pm - 3 pm  - Theatre

Aug. 1, 2015:
10 am - 12 noon - Fashion
1 pm - 3 pm - Fino’ i Tano’

Ginen Meeting - June 13

A Ginen i Hila meeting will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at King's restaurant in Tamuning.

The Guam Literary Arts Committee for the GUAM Festival of Pacific Arts 2016 is calling all interested artists to participate in our workshops on Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the University of Guam CLASS Lecture Hall.

The schedule is as follows:

Opening Remarks - 10:00 to 10:15

Indigenous Language - 10:15 to 10:45

Oratory (Storytelling) - 10:45 to 11:15

*Fashion - 11:30 to 12:30

*History - 11:30 to 12:30

*Publications - 11:30 to 12:30

   *These are concurrent presentations, and participants may elect to participate in only one of the three workshops.

Break - 12:30 to 1:00

Theater - 1:00 to 1:50

Closing - 1:50 to 2:00

MACHOSFLAKOS MADNESS FEATURES STORYTELLING SLAM - May 5

Guam’s storytelling group, Ginen I Hila’ I Maga’taotao Siha Association invites the general public to a MACHOSFLAKOS MADNESS, a night of storytelling slam on any subject matter to be held at the Mangilao Senior Citizens Center on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 7pm.

The group welcomes new members as it is preparing for its major role as the Literary Arts Committee of the 2016 hosting of the Festival of the Pacific Arts on Guam.  The group also plans a 70^th Anniversary of Liberation event entitled a Night of Tears In Their Own Words with reflections of the dark days of World War II and a Halloween Puengen Na’ma’å’ñao at Camp Te’a in Ipan, Talofofo.

The MACHOSFLAKOS MADNESS will feature first time storytellers who will be chosen at random or by volunteering at the gathering on May 5.  For additional information, current president Peter R. Pupuengen Umestoria - Nov. 9

There will be a non-alcoholic "Pupuengen Umestoria," an evening of round robin storytelling in English or Chamoru that is free and open to the general public. The event will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012, from 6pm to 8pm at the Statue of Liberty Park behind the Paseo Stadium in Hagåtña. Storytelling will be welcomed from individuals who may choose to share jokes, riddles, just-for-fun topics, embarrassing moments, personal and humorous experiences, ghost stories, superstitious practices, and for-adults-only subject matters. Members of Ginen I Hila' I Maga'taotao Siha Association will lead the storytelling sessions and will provide light refreshments. Attendees are encouraged to provide their own lawn chairs, mats, mosquito coil, insect repellent, umbrellas in case of light rain, and hand fans. Please circulate among close friends, enemies, colleagues, acquaintances as there will not be any press releases or public services announcements.

Ginen I Hila Meeting - Oct. 18

Our next meeting is this Thursday, October 18, 2012, 7pm at the Sinajana Community Center. The agenda will include nominations for the position of president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and historian. Please attend and bring along a guest or two.
